APPLICATIONs
TO SOLAR,
ON WATER

many applications compatible with our floating pv system

Thanks to our unique experience in floating solar, our Hydrelio® technology is now positioned as the ‘standard of the industry’ and owns the widest portfolio of projects in terms of completed floating PV power plants, but also of applications. By applications, we mean the available water surface where we can install a power plant. Available and compatible water areas – including lands liable to flooding – are countless around the world, opening wide possibilities to floating solar panels.

At Ciel & Terre, we had the opportunity to study and experiment the application to ‘solar, on water’ on many reservoirs with various configurations and constraints. Indeed, floating PV is particularly suitable for water and energy-intensive organizations – industries and farms – for which land and water are valuable. Irrigation reservoirs, hydroelectric dams, water treatment surfaces or drinking water sites, quarry lakes or tailing ponds, aquaculture ponds or even floodplains, all are examples of applications that industries can use to meet their energy needs by taking advantage of the synergy between the sun and water offered by our solution.

Other Benefits?

In addition to generating clean electricity – regardless of the mode of use in self-consumption or grid injection – we aim at achieving our clients’ full satisfaction by meeting more specific needs.

At Ciel & Terre, we prefer not to study projects on natural interior water bodies, unless their existence is directly threatened by evaporation, which floating PV can help reduce.

Reservoirs upgraded with our Hydrelio® technology keep their initial function, and often even see it favored by the presence of our installations. Through careful site selection, floating solar panels can even enable aquaculture, fishing or some leisurely activities. Besides, our solution is eco-friendly, 100% recyclable and compatible with drinking water, without harming the existing ecosystems living around.

Evaluate your options and choose your mode of electricity use and consumption

The installation of a floating PV farm is a smart, simple and efficient way to produce and generate income for reservoir owners. Naturally, as an electricity user or producer, you are generally located from close connection point to the grid. That is why, floating solar is the opportunity to add a new source of electricity while enjoying the existing infrastructures you have set up to operate your business activity.

Whether you are a user or producer of electricity, if you have a water body useful or not dedicated to your activity, you can take advantage of an economic, reliable and eco-friendly investment to meet your own energy needs or to benefit from additional income by injecting it directly into the grid.

Grid connection: invest in a clean grid and generate income

Energy is now more than ever at the heart of the development strategy of all countries, whose needs are rising with population growth. This is why, access to energy is a priority to to gain full independence. Thus, many governments have embarked on the energy transition by setting up policies and support mechanisms to develop renewable energies (feed-in tariffs, auctions, power purchase contracts, etc.).

This strategy is therefore favorable to the development of solar installations. Floating solar is also of interest here: without problems of land use conflicts and restrictions, nor suitable sites. Thanks to plenty of available water surfaces – often located near the grid, our Hydrelio® solution can effectively address the current energy challenges.

Net metering: invest in your own installation and reduce your electricity costs

Self-consumption is an increasingly frequent mode with the aim to reduce the transmission and distribution costs, as well as the grid dependence to avoid the recurrent system interruptions.

Where regions are dense, the amount of available space is limited and so are the infrastructures, as is the case with traditional photovoltaic systems. Floating photovoltaic can address these issues by offering an alternative to land use and can even challenge grid parity with net metering.
In both urban or rural areas, there are many medium or large water areas suitable for the implementation of floating PV plants whose electricity can be directly consumed on site for the needs of your installation.
